We were appointed to provide interior design services for a new build health and fitness centre in Saudi Arabia. With a total floor area of 25,000 SQM, this incredibly ambitious project set out to provide an ice rink in the middle of the desert as well as courts for tennis, badminton, squash and basketball. Furthermore, state of the art spa facilities, a gym, swimming pool, café and a futuristic floating running track were also part of the facility.
Due to the enormity of the project our immediate task was to space plan the building in order to group related services and to ensure the flow between each area was clear and logical. From a design perspective, we decided to accentuate the cavernous building by creating a clean and modern design that utilised the width and height of the rooms. When we were required to define specific areas, we avoided compartmentalising spaces with walls, preferring to use free-standing furniture and temporary structures. This allowed us to create a visual and physical connection between all aspects of the building.
