Al Khozama Hotel & Residences at KAUST
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is a $20bn education development set outside the city of Jeddah on the western coastline of KSA. KAUST houses more than 1,000 students, attracting staff and lecturers from world-leading science and tech institutions. The site is the largest LEED Platinum Accredited campus in the world.
Sibley Grove was invited by Olayan Group to lead the interior design and space planning for Al Khozama, a new 22,000 square metre business hotel and conference centre at the heart of the KAUST site. The hotel consists of 280 guest rooms and suites, a multi-functional hotel lobby, conference centre, business centre, meeting rooms, gym, beauty salon, restaurants, a coffee shop and roof terrace bar.
The architectural scheme for Al Khozama provides a cavernous and generously-proportioned space. We approached the interior design from a human scale, celebrating the seven-metre ceiling heights, but creating warmth and intimacy through the introduction of lighting rafts, screens and partitioning.
