The Chamberlain
The Chamberlain is a sixty-eight bedroom Edwardian hotel between Tower Hill and Aldgate stations. Our client, Fuller, Smith & Turner, engaged us to redesign the interior and create an overall design strategy for the business that would raise revenues, utilise wasted spaces, improve accessibility and cater for a broader demographic.
Our design reconfigured the ground floor to include a pub and restaurant with a slick, modern interior. The architecture was stripped back to create height and volume, revealing structural columns and duct work, and the façade adapted so that natural light floods into the space. The most significant change was to the basement level. A space previously taken up with redundant meeting rooms became a brand new cocktail bar, greatly increasing overall capacity and turnover while still incorporating flexible spaces for business meetings.
In 2020, our design for The Chamberlain won the Brit List Eco Award.
